How do I...
Get a library card?
Prospect Resident Over 18 Years Old:
Obtain a library card in person at the circulation desk by filling out a short application. Proof of town residence is required along with photo ID. If you do not have a Prospect address on your license, we will need to see a current bill with your name and address included.
Prospect Resident Under 18 Years Old:
Anyone under 18 can apply for a library card with a parent/legal guardian present by filling out a short application. Parent must have photo ID and proof of residency.
Out of Town Resident:
Other Connecticut town residents are asked to bring their library card from their current town of residence with an updated expiration date along with a photo ID. Fill out a short application and present your town's library card along with your photo ID.
Request a book from another library?
If you would like to download a book or search our downloadable books, please search our E-book/Audio Book service Overdrive. There you will need to select your 'Member Library' which is Prospect Public Library. You may then sign in using your library card barcode and password. If you have never changed your password on Overdrive before, the default password is 'userpass'. Depending on what type of E-Reader you are using, the downloading process may be different. Overdrive has instructions for how to download onto different devices in their 'help' center or you can get assistance from a librarian at the library. For more information please check out our Library Services page.
Before making a request for a book from another library, please search our catalog to ensure we do not own it. We are only able to request books from other libraries if we do not own a copy or need more copies for a book club. If we do not own the book or you need more copies for your book club please come to the circulation desk or call us at (203) 758-3001. We will need the title and author of the book as well as your name, phone number and library card number. Only books published over 6 months may be requested. It can take up to two weeks to acquire a book from another library, so please let us know well in advance if it is for a specific time period.
If you would like to renew your materials for an extended period of time, please call us at:
(203) 758-3001 or sign into your library account by going to our Catalog. In the top left-hand corner you will see a place to 'Login'. Please use your library card barcode found on the back of your library card to log-in.

Donate previously used materials?
If you have old or new books/CDs/DVDs that you would like to donate to the library we do accept donations all-year-round. Materials we do not accept are VHSs, textbooks, and encyclopedias. Please be aware that not all materials may be added into our collection. Those donations that we do not put into our collection may be given to the Friends of the Library for book sale materials. If you would like to donate a large amount of donations please call us in advance to ensure we have the room to store them. All donations must be brought into the library during open hours and may not be left outside or put in either of our book drops. Thank you.
